Description
This Sweet Alabama Bread is a chewy, buttery Southern dessert bar packed with pecans and dates. A one-bowl recipe that bakes into golden, sweet perfection!
Ingredients
1 cup (225 g) unsalted butter, melted
1 cup (200 g) light brown sugar
½ cup (100 g) granulated sugar
3 large eggs
2 tsp pure vanilla extract
2 cups (250 g) all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
½ tsp baking soda
½ tsp salt
1 cup (120 g) chopped pecans
1 cup (150 g) chopped dates
½ cup shredded coconut (optional)
2 tbsp brown sugar, for topping
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch pan.
2. In a large bowl, whisk melted butter with both sugars until smooth.
3. Add eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla.
4. In another bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
5. Combine wet and dry mixtures, folding gently until incorporated.
6. Stir in pecans, dates, and coconut if using.
7. Spread batter into prepared pan and sprinkle with brown sugar.
8. Bake 30–35 minutes until golden brown and set.
9. Cool completely before slicing.
Notes
For deeper flavor, toast pecans before adding. Replace dates with raisins or dried cranberries if desired. Store airtight for 3–4 days or freeze up to 2 months.
