Description

Old-Time Oven Peach Cobbler is a classic Southern dessert featuring juicy peaches simmered with cinnamon, brown sugar, and vanilla beneath a buttery homemade cobbler topping. Warm, comforting, and perfect served with vanilla ice cream, this easy peach cobbler is a timeless family favorite.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Peach Filling:

6 cups fresh peaches, peeled and sliced (or frozen, thawed)

3/4 cup granulated sugar

1/4 cup light brown sugar

2 tablespoons cornstarch

1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Pinch of salt

For the Cobbler Topping:

2 cups all-purpose flour

2 teaspoons baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed

3/4 cup whole milk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Optional Toppings:

Vanilla ice cream

Fresh whipped cream

Coarse sugar for sprinkling

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly butter a 9×13-inch baking dish.

2. In a large saucepan, combine the peaches, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cornstarch, lemon juice, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Cook over medium heat for 8 to 10 minutes, stirring frequently until the mixture thickens.

3. Pour the peach filling into the prepared baking dish.

4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.

5. Cut the cold butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.

6. Stir in the milk and vanilla extract until just combined. Do not overmix.

7. Drop spoonfuls of the topping evenly over the peach filling, leaving small gaps for the filling to bubble through.

8. Sprinkle with coarse sugar if desired.

9. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the peach filling is bubbling.

10. Allow the cobbler to cool for 15 minutes before serving warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

Fresh ripe peaches provide the best flavor, but frozen peaches work well when thawed and drained.

Do not overmix the topping to keep it light and tender.

Allow the cobbler to rest before serving so the filling thickens.

Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

Reheat individual servings in the microwave or warm the baking dish in a 350°F oven.
