Description
This nostalgic Old School Chocolate Traybake Cake is a moist chocolate sponge topped with cocoa icing and sprinkles. Perfect for birthdays, bake sales, or afternoon tea.
Ingredients
200g self-raising flour
30g cocoa powder
1 tsp baking powder
Pinch of salt
200g unsalted butter, softened
200g caster sugar
4 large eggs
2 tbsp milk
150g icing sugar
2 tbsp cocoa powder
2–3 tbsp milk
Chocolate sprinkles
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease and line baking tray.
2. Sift flour, cocoa, baking powder, and salt.
3. Beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
4. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well.
5. Fold in dry ingredients and milk.
6. Bake 25–30 minutes until springy.
7. Cool completely before icing.
8. Mix icing sugar, cocoa, and milk. Spread over cake.
9. Decorate with sprinkles and slice.
Notes
For extra richness, add 1 tsp instant coffee to the sponge.
Can be frozen (without icing) for up to 3 months.
