Description

Nigella’s quick and fudgy Emergency Brownies—small-batch, deeply chocolatey, and ready in minutes for instant dessert satisfaction.

Ingredients

Scale

50g unsalted butter, softened

50g soft light brown sugar

15ml maple syrup or golden syrup

30g plain flour

30g cocoa powder

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

Pinch of salt

Optional: chocolate chips, walnuts, espresso powder, sea salt flakes

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).

2. Mix butter, brown sugar, syrup, egg, and vanilla in a small bowl.

3. Add flour, cocoa powder, and salt; mix until just combined.

4. Fold in optional chocolate chips or nuts.

5. Spread into a small baking dish and bake 10–12 minutes until gooey in the center.

6. Cool slightly and serve warm.

Notes

Do not overbake—these brownies should stay gooey in the center.

Use brown sugar for extra fudginess.

Maple or golden syrup gives a shiny top and deeper flavor.
