Ingredients

Scale

For the Chocolate Cake:

1 box (15.25 oz) chocolate cake mix

3 large eggs

1/2 cup vegetable oil

1 cup water

For the Poke Filling:

1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk

1/2 cup caramel sauce

For the German Chocolate Topping:

1/2 cup (115 g) unsalted butter

1 cup (240 ml) evaporated milk

3 large egg yolks

3/4 cup (150 g) brown sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 1/2 cups sweetened shredded coconut

1 cup chopped pecans

Optional Chocolate Drizzle:

1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

1 tablespoon coconut oil

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.

2. Prepare the chocolate cake batter according to package directions using the eggs, oil, and water.

3. Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for 28 to 32 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

4. Allow the cake to cool for 10 minutes.

5. Using the handle of a wooden spoon, poke holes all over the warm cake.

6. Whisk together the sweetened condensed milk and caramel sauce.

7. Pour the mixture evenly over the cake, allowing it to soak into the holes.

8. In a saucepan combine butter, evaporated milk, egg yolks, and brown sugar.

9. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, for 8 to 10 minutes until thickened.

10. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract, shredded coconut, and chopped pecans.

11. Spread the coconut pecan topping evenly over the cake.

12. Melt chocolate chips with coconut oil until smooth and drizzle over the top.

13. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour before slicing into bars and serving.

Notes

Poke the cake while still warm so the filling absorbs properly.

Toast the pecans before adding for deeper flavor.

Chill before slicing for cleaner bars.

Store refrigerated because of the coconut pecan topping.

Perfect for potlucks, holidays, birthdays, and family gatherings.
