Description
A cozy Dolly Parton Crock Pot Bread made with self-rising flour and buttermilk, slow-cooked into a tender, lightly sweet loaf with no oven needed.
Ingredients
4 cups self-rising flour
¼ cup sugar
1½ cups buttermilk
½ cup unsalted butter, melted
¼ cup milk
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
½ cup chopped pecans (optional)
Butter for greasing
Instructions
1. Generously grease the interior of the slow cooker with butter, focusing on the bottom and sides.
2. In a large bowl, whisk together the self-rising flour and sugar until evenly distributed.
3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, melted butter, milk, egg, and vanilla extract. Let the melted butter cool slightly before adding it to the egg mixture.
4. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined. Avoid overmixing. Fold in the pecans, if using.
5. Spread the batter evenly into the greased slow cooker.
6. Cover and cook on LOW for 2–3 hours.
7. Insert a toothpick into the center; it should come out clean or with a few moist crumbs.
8. Remove from the slow cooker and cool on a wire rack before slicing.
Notes
Grease the slow cooker generously, including the sides, so the loaf releases cleanly.
Stir the batter gently once combined — overmixing can make the bread dense.
Cooking times vary considerably between slow cookers, so start checking toward the earlier end of the range.
