Description

Rich, chewy one-bowl brownies made with butter, cocoa, and a little flour, with a shiny crackly top and a dense, fudgy center.

Ingredients

Scale

1/2 cup (113 g) butter, melted

1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar

1/2 cup (43 g) unsweetened cocoa powder

2 large eggs

3/4 cup (94 g) all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8-inch (20 cm) square baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on two sides, and lightly grease it.

2. In a large bowl, whisk the melted butter and sugar together until combined.

3. Whisk in the cocoa powder and salt until smooth and glossy.

4. Add the eggs one at a time, whisking well after each, then stir in the vanilla. Beat the batter for about 1 minute until thick and shiny.

5. Fold in the flour with a spatula until just combined. Do not overmix.

6. Spread the batter evenly in the prepared pan.

7. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.

8. Cool the brownies completely in the pan on a wire rack, then lift out using the parchment and cut into 16 squares.

Notes

Based on the Easy One-Bowl Classic Fudge Brownies published by Urban Bakes (about 1/2 cup butter, 1 cup sugar, 1/2 cup cocoa, 2 eggs, 3/4 cup flour, and a 350°F oven are from the source). The vanilla, the salt, the 8-inch pan, the exact bake time within the 35 to 40 minute range, the cooling time, and the yield of 16 squares are estimates based on standard brownie recipes, and the recipe has not been tested.

For the fudgiest result, bake until a toothpick shows a few moist crumbs, not completely clean.

Cool the brownies completely before cutting for clean squares.
