Description
These Chocolate Chip Caramel Bars are a 35-year family favorite! Rich, buttery bars layered with gooey caramel and melty chocolate chips that freeze beautifully and make perfect gifts.
Ingredients
Cookie Dough:
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup brown sugar
½ cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1½ tsp vanilla extract
2½ cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
½ tsp salt
Filling:
1½ cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
1½ cups caramel candies, unwrapped
3 tbsp heavy cream
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F and line pan.
2. Cream butter and sugars, then add eggs and vanilla.
3. Mix in dry ingredients.
4. Press two-thirds of dough into pan and bake briefly.
5. Melt caramels with cream.
6. Layer chocolate chips and caramel over crust.
7. Top with remaining dough.
8. Bake until golden and set.
9. Cool, chill, and slice.
Notes
Chill bars before slicing for clean cuts.
Slice small — these are rich.
Bars freeze beautifully for up to 3 months.
