Description

These Butterscotch Caramel Frosted Cake Bars are soft, tender, and topped with a creamy, melty caramel-butterscotch frosting. Sweet, rich, and irresistible, they’re perfect for dessert, brunch, or gifting. Made with simple ingredients and easy steps, they’re a family favorite and bakery-style treat made at home.

Ingredients

Scale

1 ½ cups all-purpose flour

1 ½ tsp baking powder

1 cup packed brown sugar

½ cup unsalted butter, melted

2 large eggs

1 tsp vanilla extract

¼ cup heavy cream

Optional toppings: chopped nuts, sea salt, chocolate drizzle

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8×8 baking pan with parchment paper.

2. In a large bowl, whisk together brown sugar, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth.

3. Fold in all-purpose flour, baking powder, and heavy cream until batter is fully combined.

4. Pour batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.

5. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until the center is set and a toothpick comes out clean.

6. While the cake cools, prepare the butterscotch-caramel frosting: melt butter with brown sugar in a saucepan, whisk in heavy cream and vanilla until smooth.

7. Allow frosting to cool slightly, then spread over the cooled cake bars.

8. Add optional toppings like chopped nuts, sea salt, or a chocolate drizzle.

9. Slice into bars and serve.

Notes

Use parchment for easy removal and clean slices.

Do not overbake the cake — it should be soft and tender.

For extra flavor, add a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg to the batter.

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for 3–4 days, or refrigerate for up to 1 week.

Freeze bars for up to 2 months, slice before freezing for easy portions.
