Description

This Black Cocoa Loaf Cake recipe is a deep, dark, and delicious chocolate dream. Made with rich black cocoa, buttermilk, and vanilla, this loaf delivers a moist crumb, a bold flavor reminiscent of Oreo cookies, and a touch of elegance in every slice. Perfect for dessert, brunch, or a cozy treat with your morning coffee.

Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients:

1 cup all-purpose flour

½ cup black cocoa powder

1 teaspoon baking powder

½ teaspoon baking soda

¼ teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients:

¾ cup granulated sugar

½ cup neutral oil (vegetable or canola)

2 large eggs, room temperature

¾ cup buttermilk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Optional Chocolate Glaze:

½ cup dark chocolate chips

2 tablespoons heavy cream

Instructions

1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line an 8×4 or 9×5 loaf pan with parchment paper.

2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, black cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

3. In a separate medium bowl, whisk together sugar, oil, eggs, buttermilk, and vanilla until smooth and glossy.

4. Gradually add the dry mixture into the wet ingredients, stirring gently with a spatula until just combined. Do not overmix.

5. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.

6. Bake for 45–55 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out mostly clean.

7. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

8. For the optional glaze, melt chocolate chips and heavy cream together until smooth, then drizzle over the cooled cake.

9. Slice, serve, and enjoy your dark, luscious chocolate loaf!

Notes

• For the deepest flavor, use high-quality black cocoa (similar to the kind used in Oreo cookies).

• If you don’t have buttermilk, substitute with ¾ cup milk mixed with 1 teaspoon lemon juice or vinegar.

• Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days or refrigerate for a week.

• This loaf freezes beautifully—wrap slices individually and thaw as needed.

• Perfect with whipped cream, vanilla ice cream, or a hot cup of coffee!
