These Apple Kuchen Bars are a cozy twist on the classic German dessert—featuring a buttery crust, spiced apples, and a crumbly topping. Perfect for fall baking or family gatherings!
Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 medium apples, peeled and sliced
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13-inch pan with parchment paper.
2. Whisk flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder. Cut in cold butter until crumbly.
3. Mix in egg and vanilla until dough forms. Press 2/3 into the pan.
4. Toss apple slices with brown sugar and cinnamon. Spread over crust.
5. Crumble remaining dough on top. Bake 35–40 minutes until golden.
6. Cool completely before slicing into bars.
Notes
Best enjoyed fresh, but can be stored airtight for up to 5 days.
Delicious with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
