Description
Soft Amish brown sugar cake with a creamy brown sugar frosting that melts into every bite. A nostalgic, old-fashioned dessert.
Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 tsp baking powder
½ tsp salt
½ cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup packed brown sugar
½ cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup buttermilk
½ cup unsalted butter (frosting)
1 cup packed brown sugar (frosting)
¼ cup heavy cream or milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
1½–2 cups powdered sugar
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F and grease a 9×13 pan.
2. Whisk dry ingredients together.
3. Cream butter and sugars until fluffy.
4. Add eggs and vanilla.
5. Alternate adding dry ingredients and buttermilk.
6. Bake 30–35 minutes until set.
7. Prepare frosting by boiling butter, brown sugar, and cream.
8. Whisk in powdered sugar and vanilla.
9. Pour frosting over warm cake.
Notes
Pour frosting while cake is warm.
Do not overbake for best texture.
Dark brown sugar adds deeper flavor.
