Description
These golden, buttery biscuits are baked in a pool of melted butter, making them crispy on the edges and pillowy soft inside. No rolling, no kneading—just pure Southern biscuit magic in 30 minutes!
Ingredients
½ cup butter
2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
4 teaspoons baking powder
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 ¾ cup buttermilk
Instructions
-
Preheat oven to 450°F (232°C).
-
Place the butter in an 8×8 baking dish and melt in the oven.
-
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
-
Pour in the buttermilk and stir until just combined.
-
Remove the dish from the oven and pour the dough into the melted butter.
-
Gently spread the dough evenly in the dish and score the top into 9 squares with a knife.
-
Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the top is golden and edges are crispy.
-
Let cool slightly and serve warm!
Notes
-
Don’t overmix the dough; it should be slightly sticky.
-
You can use a buttermilk substitute: mix 1¾ cups milk with 1 tbsp lemon juice or vinegar and let sit for 5 minutes.
-
Want extra flavor? Add shredded cheddar or fresh herbs before baking.
-
Store in an airtight container at room temperature for 2 days or refrigerate up to 5.
