Ingredients

Scale

For the Cake:

1 ½ cups (190g) all-purpose flour

1 tsp baking powder

¼ tsp baking soda

½ tsp ground cloves

¼ tsp ground cinnamon

¼ tsp salt

½ cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened

¾ cup (150g) granulated sugar

2 large eggs

Zest of 1 orange

2 tbsp (30ml) orange juice

½ cup (120ml) milk

For the Glaze:

½ cup (60g) powdered sugar

12 tbsp (15–30ml) fresh orange juice

Pinch of ground cloves (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9×5″ loaf pan with parchment.

  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, cloves, cinnamon, and salt.

  • In a separate large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until fluffy.

  • Beat in eggs one at a time, then add orange zest and juice.

  • Alternately add the dry mixture and milk, mixing just until combined.

  • Pour into the prepared pan and smooth the top.

  • Bake for 50–60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.

  • Cool in pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

  • Mix glaze ingredients and drizzle over cooled loaf.

Notes

  • Make sure ingredients are at room temperature.

  • Add chopped walnuts or cranberries for texture.

  • Glaze while loaf is slightly warm for a glossy finish.

  • Tent with foil if the top browns too quickly.
