Ingredients
For the Cake:
1 ½ cups (190g) all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
¼ tsp baking soda
½ tsp ground cloves
¼ tsp ground cinnamon
¼ tsp salt
½ cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened
¾ cup (150g) granulated sugar
2 large eggs
Zest of 1 orange
2 tbsp (30ml) orange juice
½ cup (120ml) milk
For the Glaze:
½ cup (60g) powdered sugar
1–2 tbsp (15–30ml) fresh orange juice
Pinch of ground cloves (optional)
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9×5″ loaf pan with parchment.
In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, cloves, cinnamon, and salt.
In a separate large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until fluffy.
Beat in eggs one at a time, then add orange zest and juice.
Alternately add the dry mixture and milk, mixing just until combined.
Pour into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
Bake for 50–60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
Cool in pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
Mix glaze ingredients and drizzle over cooled loaf.
Notes
Make sure ingredients are at room temperature.
Add chopped walnuts or cranberries for texture.
Glaze while loaf is slightly warm for a glossy finish.
Tent with foil if the top browns too quickly.
