Ingredients
Scale
- 2 ½ cups (310g) all-purpose flour (or bread flour)
- 1 cup (240ml) warm water (about 110°F / 45°C)
- 2 teaspoons instant yeast (or active dry yeast)
- 1 tablespoon sugar (optional, for a slightly sweeter bread)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon olive oil or melted butter
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir gently and let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- Add flour, salt, and oil to the yeast mixture. Stir until a rough dough forms.
- Transfer to a lightly floured surface and knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 45 minutes to 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and shape it into a round or oval loaf.
- Heat a non-stick or cast-iron pan over low heat and lightly grease it with oil or butter.
- Place the dough in the pan, cover with a tight-fitting lid, and cook for 10–12 minutes until golden brown.
- Flip the bread carefully and cook for another 8–10 minutes.
- Remove from the pan and let cool for 10 minutes before slicing.
Notes
- Use a heavy-bottomed pan for even cooking.
- Cook on low heat to prevent burning while ensuring the inside is fully cooked.
- Covering the pan traps heat, mimicking an oven.
- Check for doneness by tapping the bread—if it sounds hollow, it’s ready!
