Description

This Italian Apple Cake with Sour Cream is a cozy, rustic dessert made with tender apples, warm cinnamon, and a creamy tang from sour cream. Moist, flavorful, and easy to make, it’s perfect for any occasion—from brunch to a casual dinner dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 apples, peeled and chopped

  • 200 ml sour cream

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar

  • 1/2 cup melted unsalted butter

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • A pinch of salt

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour an 8- or 9-inch cake pan or line with parchment.

  • In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, sugar, melted butter, vanilla, and sour cream until smooth.

  • Stir in flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt just until combined.

  • Fold in the chopped apples gently until evenly distributed.

  • Pour batter into prepared pan and smooth the top.

  • Bake for 35–40 minutes or until golden and a toothpick comes out clean.

  • Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.

Notes

  • Use tart apples like Granny Smith for a firmer texture.

  • For a dairy-free version, use plant-based yogurt and butter.

  • Sprinkle powdered sugar on top or drizzle with caramel for extra flair.

  • Store at room temp for up to 3 days or freeze slices for later.
