Description
Buttery crumb bars filled with juicy spiced apples and topped with a tender golden crust. Perfect for fall baking or a cozy dessert any time of year.
Ingredients
2½ cups all-purpose flour
1 cup granulated sugar
½ teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
1 large egg
5 cups peeled and diced apples
½ cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon nutmeg
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and prepare a 9×13” pan.
2. In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder, and cinnamon.
3. Cut in butter until crumbly, then stir in egg.
4. Press 2/3 of mixture into pan to form crust.
5. Toss apples with sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
6. Layer apple filling evenly over crust.
7. Sprinkle reserved crumb mixture on top.
8. Bake 30–45 minutes or until golden and bubbling.
9. Cool completely before slicing into bars.
Notes
Use a mix of tart and sweet apples for best flavor.
Add oats or nuts for a heartier crumb topping.
Store leftovers in an airtight container up to 5 days.
